Parent Consulting

This collaborative method guarantees that parents are actively involved in their child's speech therapy journey, building a supportive and knowledgeable partnership.

Types of Assessments:

Parent interviews, play-based observations, informal assessments, and formal assessments are all part of the first evaluation process. Recommendations for the treatment plan, including frequency of therapy, long- and short-term goals, and a home exercise program, will be made based on the results of the initial evaluation. Before starting treatment, the parent will receive and evaluate the report.

INITIAL EVALUATION:

Every six months to a year, the patient will have another evaluation to see how well they are doing in reaching both their short- and long-term objectives. Determining whether to continue therapy services, set new short- and long-term goals, increase or decrease therapy services, or end therapy services are all made easier by reevaluating the patient. Every re-evaluation will cover both formal and informal measurements in the area of need in addition to the patient's current long- and short-term goals. Following each re-evaluation, the report will be given to the parent and discussed with them.

RE-EVALUATION:

  • Speech & Language Evaluation

Receptive Language, Expressive Language & Articulation.

  • Language Evaluation

    Receptive Language & Expressive Language

  • Speech Evaluation

    Articulation skills & Phonological processes

Areas of Treatment:

Articulation and Phonological Disorders, Expressive & Receptive Language Disorders, Social Pragmatic Communication Disorders, Fluency/Voice Disorders, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)

Based on the results and outcomes of the evaluation, a treatment plan will be developed by the Speech Language Pathologist along with parent/caregiver input. A treatment plan consists of long-term and short-term goals, frequency of therapy, and home exercise plan. Treatment plans are individualized based on the patient’s evaluation.

Play-Based Therapy

〰️

Play-Based Therapy 〰️

In play therapy, trained therapists create a safe and supportive environment where children can engage in various forms of play, such as art, games, and imaginative play. While many may think we are “just playing”, through play, children often feel safe to express themselves, process emotions, and make sense of their experiences.

Sensory Gym

〰️

Sensory Gym 〰️

At Howdy Therapy Services, we offer a sensory gym to enhance the effectiveness of speech therapy interventions, particularly for individuals who benefit from a multi-sensory approach. A sensory gym is particularly beneficial for regulating children by providing a controlled environment that caters to their sensory needs. Autistic children often experience challenges in processing sensory information, and a sensory gym offers a structured space where they can explore and regulate their sensory experiences. The various equipment and activities in the sensory gym, such as swings, climbing structures, and textured surfaces, provide opportunities for proprioceptive, vestibular, and tactile input.

Engaging in sensory activities helps autistic children self-regulate, managing sensory input in a way that supports their emotional and behavioral well-being. This controlled exposure to sensory input can contribute to improved attention, focus, and emotional regulation. By combining speech therapy with sensory activities, therapists can enhance engagement and communication skills. The sensory gym becomes a space where autistic children not only regulate their sensory experiences but also develop communication and socialization skills in a positive and enjoyable manner.
